There is some ambiguity with regard to the origins of the Skyrian horse. Because of the lack of general representation of such small horses on ancient monuments and texts alike, some assume that Skyrian horses were unknown during ancient times. Some believe that during older times there was a horse in Attica that had the height of a goat, which was called hipparion. This species is now extinct and some people believe that the Skyrian horse is the last representation of that species.
